I, my wife Frankie, and our daughter Yvonne moved to Calumet Park in 1983. Since moving to Calumet Park, I have been involved in numerous civic actives in the community. I served seven years on the Board of Directors for United Way involved in community fund raising; a member of the Board of Calumet Park Community Relations, member and Chairman of the Board of Calumet Park Recreation Center and on May 8, 2008, appointed to the position of Trustee Village Calumet Park.
In 1998 with a concern for young people growing up in our community, I formed the organization, Calumet Park Men United to Save Our Youth. This group is highly active in providing mentoring opportunities for our youth, providing services such as painting of the local schools and assisting the Village when called upon. I am also a member and past President of Calumet Park Chamber Of Commerce.
I retired from FMC Corporation in 2005 after seventeen years of service. I was the Manger of Information Resources. In this position, I supervised a staff of three whose responsibilities included repair and installation of computers at the FMC Corporate Headquarters in Chicago. Besides supervision, I purchased all the new computer equipment for the corporate offices. As an FMC representative, I provided motivational speeches to youth in various local public schools. I received a Certificate of Merit for outstanding contribution as a Youth Motivational Speaker for 1988-89.
I was one of the founding members of FMC’s Minority Council formed in 1990. This Council looked for opportunities to increase diversity throughout the corporation. I received the “Diversity Leadership” award in 1999, for advancing an environment that values each individual and encourages all employees to maximize their potential. I have served on many boards and advisory councils throughout my career not only at FMC but other corporations to make the workplace better.
I am a member of Community Covenant Church here in Calumet Park where I currently serve as Chairman of the Church Board. I teach Sunday School, and on special occasions teach Bible Study and serve as facilitator for our Men’s prayer service. I also serve as a member of the Covenant Men. I have served in the capacity of Chairman of the Trustee Board and a Trustee at Community Covenant.
I enjoy helping others and now that I am retired, hope to spend more of my time doing so.
